Ute and I started the Powder/Bulk Portal in 2001, after we had sold Trans Tech Publications, an internationally known publishing company for technical/scientific literature – books and trade magazines – for close to 30 years. On July 1, 2016 we will celebrate the 15th birthday of The Powder/Bulk Portal!
During this period, the Portal published several thousand News items, and several ten thousand forum posts, and a few hundred videos, and I guess some other material as well.
It had always been our wish to also concentrate on the people active in the powder and bulk solids handling and processing industries, perhaps something like a Facebook in powder bulk handling, but less ambitious.
Many, many years ago, Professor Dr. Frits Rademacher from the Twente University in The Netherlands, coined and legally registered the slogan „Bulkoholics“ for the people who are active in bulk materials handling research and development.
Because we were friends, and Frits appreciated the work we did in this field, he transferred his rights on the term „Bulkoholics“ to The Powder/Bulk Portal. Instrumental in this transaction was also our good old friend and bulk handling „pope“ Prof. Dr. Dr. Alan Roberts of Australia.
So we had the „Bulkoholics“ slogan for many years, but only occasionally used it in emails, etc. In 2011 we introduced it as a website address. We started out to collect our own photos of „Bulkoholics“, but still never had the time to go public with our long-time plan.
But another slogan – „better late than never“ – now prompted us to launch a trombinoscope of people active in our field of powder and bulk solids handling and processing.
We will start with our own photos for the beginning, in order to get the ball rolling, but we invite you to post or send in (email@example.com) your photos (72 dpi, about 1000px wide) of people active in our industry. At the moment we do not know how this „Bulkoholics“ site will develop, but I would suggest that you add some information to the photos you send us. You can also add information by using the “Comments” button. Here you can give details to photos shown. Or we will correct our captions if needed.
If I have done it correctly, your postings will be moderated, i.e. we will decide if we can use your material or not.
I kindly invite you to cooperate in this new endeavour, and tell your friends and associates about it, and perhaps we can get it flying, for old times sake.
